I’m going to try and blog the progress I’m making recording and mixing the new Moeker record. It’ll be nice to have a record of what I’ve done and when, and it gives me more incentive to blog - I’ve been very lax lately!
I spent a good chunk of time last night adding new guitar parts into the mix for Seen But Not Heard, a tune that’s very popular at gigs. Colloquially known as ‘The Banshee Song’ by the audience, it’s one of our favourites to play and consequently the recorded version has to be just right.
I’m most worried about this song not having the power and emotion that it does live, and so I’m opting for a fairly simple approach to mixing. I dropped Neil’s guitar takes into the session in Pro Tools, spent some time tweaking the acoustic guitar for timing and dynamics, left all the electric guitar parts well alone and ran off a rough mix. I’m now waiting for feedback from the rest of the Moekernauts - this track has to be killer and if I’ve got the sound wrong, I need to know now…
We should totally set up a separate blog and put this stuff up. I’ll do the necessary hackerizing of moeker.com to pull the feed….
We love the Banshee. Welcome back.
Shouldn’t that be ‘Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back’…?
Not my line dude, not my line
Even Marty is calling it the Banshee Song now. I feel almost maternal
